Efstathios Efstathopoulos
The head of the first unit, entitled "Introduction to Nanotechnology," is Professor of Medical Physics Efstathios Efstathopoulos. His research focuses on X-ray dosimetry in patients and staff, X-ray imaging, vulnerable atherosclerotic plaque detection, nanomedicine, and artificial intelligence in healthcare. He is the author or co-author of more than 150 scientific publications with over 4,000 citations. He has presented more than 100 papers at scientific conferences and given more than 70 invited lectures at scientific conferences.
Constantinos Demetzos
The head of the second thematic unit, entitled "Applications of Nanotechnology in Medicine," is Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology Konstantinos Demetzos. His research focuses on the chemistry of natural products and pharmaceutical nanotechnology, while he also studies many chemical classes of pharmaceutical compounds with an emphasis on anticancer agents. He is the author or co-author of more than 250 scientific publications with over 4,000 citations. He has made more than 400 presentations at Greek and international scientific conferences.
Maria Gazouli
Professor of Biology - Nanomedicine, Maria Gazouli, is responsible for the 3rd Thematic Unit entitled "Nano-toxicity and Regulatory aspects". Her research focuses mainly on the molecular basis of autoimmune/inflammatory diseases and cancer, while she has recently been working on the integration of nanotechnology in targeted cancer detection, imaging, and drug delivery. She was awarded a Fulbright scholarship for the development of nanotechnology-based biosensor arrays for the detection of circulating colon cancer cells at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA He is the author or co-author of more than 350 scientific publications with more than 8,000 citations. He holds one international patent and three European patents, and has given more than 50 invited lectures at international/national conferences and universities.
